I was surfing on the internet and I found this Post on MattePainting.org : THE POST I’M TALKING ABOUT

I really like the idea of building a miniature to do the shoot and have the element for the DMP in the correct angle with the lighting you want, but is that still efficient to do it in production ?
When I was at RodeoFX, Mathieu Raynault told me about a guy at ILM who was still building some model with different kind of material to take some photos and use them in the DMP, even if it was for just one shot. I also know that Deak Ferrand did it on Little Nicky. He used chicken bones to get the result on this castle.

The thing is that now, you can use tools like Mudbox or Zbrush to get good results quickly, and you still can move your camera and your light sources where you want. I understand there is a interest in doing it with the traditional way, especially for the textures, and all the stuff that you can put in reel by sculpting your model. I never saw anyone building something to take some photos and do the DMP, I’d love to try though.
What do you think ?
